On Saturday, February 8th, the ACE Center for New Americans in Lowell buzzed with energy as 23 participants gathered for a Financial Literacy Workshop. Sponsored by the Massachusetts Office for Refugees and Immigrants (MA ORI), the workshop aspired to equip New Americans with essential financial knowledge to support their journey toward economic independence.
The comprehensive session covered key topics including the Basics of Banking, Budgeting, Understanding Credit Scores and Reports, and an introduction to Home Buying. Participants received financial informational packets to reinforce their learning, enjoyed a shared lunch, and completed a knowledge assessment to solidify their understanding.
The workshop concluded with an inspiring "Know Your Rights" presentation by Rev. Dr. Mar Imsong, Executive Director of Massachusetts Baptist Multicultural Ministries and the ACE Center for New Americans. Each participant proudly received a certificate of completion and a $75 stipend, celebrating their commitment to financial empowerment.
The impact of the workshop was reflected in the heartfelt feedback from attendees:
"I am very happy today. Thank you so much. I learned a lot of things that I will put into practice."
"I felt very happy to participate. I would love to have these types of training sessions more often."
"Thank you for the training and the warm welcome. I learned a lot. God bless you all!"
Workshops like this not only provide valuable financial skills but also create a sense of community, confidence, and hope among New Americans. The smiles and gratitude shared by participants solidified the day’s success and the importance of continued support through educational initiatives.
