Volleyball Tournament 2022
On Saturday, August 6th, members of the ACE Center for New Americans community and staff gathered for an afternoon of fun, competition, and camaraderie at Pailin Volleyball Court for the second year in a row. We had a strong turnout from our local Bhutanese, Cambodian, Afghani, Chinese, and Vietnamese communities for this event despite the strong August sun and the high humidity.
Five teams competed in our friendly 6 vs. 6 volleyball tournaments for the 2022 Volleyball Champion Title. The Dara Boys (Bhutanese) faced off against the Afghani Community of Lowell while Fly High (mixed ethnicities) faced team Quick-Step (mixed ethnicities) in the first-round. The Musketeers (Cambodian) won the coveted first-round bye but went on to face team Quick-Step in the second round. The Afghani Community of Lowell received the second-round bye, earning an opportunity to rest, hydrate, and enjoy a freeze pop or two while waiting to see with whom they would play in the final match. After facing stiff competition, team Quick-Step won the opportunity to move on to the final match. Ultimately, after a heated match, team Quick-Step was victorious over the Afghani team. It was quite a feat for this team to earn the first-place trophy, being the only team to play a match in every round. Every player from both teams playing in the final match received an award for their efforts. First and second place team trophies were also presented.
All the teams played hard, had fun, and played fair. Thank you to the teams, players who participated, spectators who cheered them on, and the ACE Center staff who organized and officiated the tournament. Together we made this event a success.
