Drop-In After-School Program
The ACE Center for New Americans is an entity of MA Baptist Multicultural Ministries that provides various services and programs to support refugees and immigrants in the Greater Lowell, MA area. One of the programs that are offered at the ACE Center is the Drop-In After School Program, which is designed to help New American students with homework and other educational needs.
The Drop-In After School Program provides a safe and supportive environment for children to receive help with homework and academic support. This program is essential for New American Students who often come from disadvantaged backgrounds and may face language barriers and other challenges as they adjust to a new educational system.
The program is open to children in grades K-12, and it is offered free of charge. The program runs Monday and Wednesday, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm during the school year. The After School Program is staffed by trained volunteers who provide one-on-one tutoring and mentoring to the children. These volunteers come from diverse backgrounds and include college students, retirees, and professionals who want to give back to their community.
The program not only provides academic support but also helps children develop social and emotional skills by interacting with other students and volunteers. Children in the program have the opportunity to make new friends, both from their ethnic unit and multiculturally, learn about different cultures, and participate in various activities that promote teamwork and cooperation.
In addition to academic support, the Drop-In After School Program also provides enrichment activities such as arts and crafts, games, and outdoor activities. These activities are designed to help children build confidence and develop their creativity.
The ACE Center Drop-In After School Program has been highly successful in helping New American students in the Greater Lowell, MA area. The program has helped many children improve their grades, develop social skills, and gain confidence in their abilities. It has also provided a sense of community and belonging for children who may feel isolated in their new environment.
